You mean Federal grant funding is going to students in private schools? How could that be?
These monies are spent using District Title I federal funds and provide tuition assistance, professional development, and parental involvement services for students who fell in the free or reduced lunch category in accordance with Title I and the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2011.
On July 26, 2011, in a recommendation to the board from the district, “This agreement will enable participating districts and other consortium members, in their capacities as local education agencies under Title I, to utilize their Title I funds and resources to provide program services to eligible Title I students attending private schools on a more efficient and cost effective basis than they could do separately.” (emphasis added)
Legislators continue to be burned at the stake by “big education” for making changes funding. Pubic schools contend they are starving for funds, meanwhile districts are utilizing private school organizations to do what they can’t do as efficiently. Congrats to GPS for owning up to the facts.
